How Caregivers Can Decorate Their Senior Loved One’s Home for Thanksgiving

By Home Care Assistance, 9:00 am on

Decorating your senior loved one’s home is a great way to show him or her how much you truly care. In fact, providers of elderly care in Ft. Lauderdale believe that it helps to brighten seniors’ moods. When you let seniors help create inexpensive and creative decorations for the house, you both enjoy many emotional benefits. Most importantly, you will be creating memories that are priceless. These simple ideas are designed to get your creative juices flowing. There are numerous ways that you can expand on them to reflect your own personality, so get busy and start decorating your loved one’s home for Thanksgiving today.

Old Bottle Decorations

If your senior loved one has some old bottles, then dig them out of storage. Take sprigs of Hawthorn or other fall berries and stick them in the jars to bring a touch of fall color to your senior’s home.

Thanksgiving Cornucopia

If your senior’s home has a fireplace mantle, then decorate it with a cornucopia that you build together. Start by getting some chicken wire and shape it into a cornucopia, and then cover it with burlap. You can glue the burlap in place or use raffia and tie it. You could even wrap a fall sprig around it to coordinate with other decorations in the home. Fill the end of the cornucopia with miniature pumpkins, gourds or other seasonal decorations.

Window Clings

Window clings made with pretty fall leaves and some wax paper make a beautiful way to decorate your senior’s home. Start by collecting some of the prettiest leaves from nature. Then, cut a piece of wax paper about six inches tall. Lay the wax paper on a table with the wax side facing up. Now, lay the leaves on half of the wax paper. Fold the wax paper over and hold a hot iron on top of it until the wax melts. Punch a hole in the top of the wax paper and hang from the window.

In addition to unlocking your loved one’s creativity, making decorations together fortifies your bond with him or her.
