National Rose Month: Easy-to-Maintain Roses for Seniors to Plant

By Manpreet Dhalla, 9:00 am on

June is the designated National Rose Month. Roses are so loved and popular that President Ronald Regan signed a proclamation in 1986 that made it the official flower of the United States. The rose is also the birthday flower of June, which is when these fragrant flowers are at their peak. Seniors can celebrate National Rose Month by planting the following easy-to-maintain roses with the help of their family members or Ft. Lauderdale senior care providers.

Knockout

These beautiful roses can easily be planted in a container or a sunny garden. Knockout roses are considered to be one of the easiest roses to grow because they’re almost entirely maintenance free. Seniors who plant this type of rose won’t have to do any spraying for pests or do any deadheading because the flowers are self-cleaning. Seniors will also find that pruning this shrub rose is quite easy.

Ballerina

Ballerina roses can be planted in groups, on their own or flowing over a picket fence. Seniors can choose the garden design for this rose that would be easiest for them to maintain. These roses require little to no maintenance for them to flourish. Regular watering is all that is needed. Pruning can be done to make this rose bush smaller and easier to maintain, but it isn’t necessary.

Easy Elegance

These roses are hardy, disease-resistant flowers that seniors can easily grow in containers or small gardens. They’re compact bushes that don’t grow too tall, which will make it easier for seniors to prune and maintain without having to use a stepladder or stool to do so. These roses will also bloom in abundance in the coldest of climates.

Altissimo

Altissimo roses are mainly disease resistant and are perfect for a smaller garden. These roses will also be easy for a senior to train on a small arbor or trellis. This easy-care rose will need a senior to compost it yearly, prune it while it’s dormant, and fertilize it in the early spring.
